Cape Coral
Die Stadt auf der Halbinsel im Südwesten Floridas ist gekennzeichnet durch über 600 Kilometer Wasserkanäle und zählt zu einer der am schnellsten wachsenden Städte Floridas. Das Immobilien-Geschäft boomt in Cape Coral und zum Caloosahatchee River und Pine Island Sound haben die meisten der Grundstücke Zugang. Bootsbesitzer können sic h hier glücklich schätzen. Das Klima ist ganzjährig warm und mild. Cape Coral ist ein Traum für Golfspieler und umringt von zahlreichen wunderschön gelegenen Golfplätzen. Besucher können sich am Naturschutzgebiet Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve erfreuen und die Mangrovenwälder und Aussichtspunkte erkunden. Natur pur kann man ebenfalls im Rotary Park oder Jaycee Park genießen. Die Gegend um Cape Coral hat ihren ganz eigenen Charme, bei einer Boots- oder Kajaktour kann man Delphine, Manatees und Fischreiher in freier Natur bewundern.
Naples
Die in Collier County gelegene Küstenstadt im Südwesten Floridas mit ihrer indianischen Geschichte ist ein attraktives Reiseziel für Florida-Reisende. Die Küstenstadt lässt sich gut bei einer Städtetour in einem Trolley-Bus erkunden, fast 100 sehenswerte Punkte werden angefahren. Und auch Naples verfügt über eine unüberschaubare Fülle eindrucksvoller Golfplätze mit jedem Schwierigkeitsgrad. Der Anteil deutscher Einwohner in Naples liegt bei rund 20 Prozent und ist damit im Vergleich zu anderen Städten der USA hoch. Den Alltag hinter sich lassen gelingt am Besten beim Flanieren auf der schönen Einkaufspromenade 5th Avenue mit ihren abwechslungsreichen Boutiquen, Cafés und Restaurants. Erholung und die Seele baumeln lassen kann man im Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park, der über einen der schönsten Strände Floridas zu bieten hat und dementsprechend bei Touristen und Einheimischen beliebt ist.
St. Petersburg
„The Sunshine City“ – durchschnittlich scheint an 360 Tagen im Jahr in der Hafenstadt in Pinellas County die Sonne und erfreut sich damit großer Beliebtheit bei Besuchern und Einheimischen. Die im Westen Floridas gelegene Stadt liegt zwischen der Tampa Bay und dem Golf von Mexiko. Die Sunshine Skyway Bridge überspannt die Tampa Bay und ist die weltweit längste Schrägseilbrücke. Das The Pier ist einer der Hauptanziehungspunkte in St. Petersburg. Das Gebäude in der Form einer Pyramide bietet neben zahlreichen Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Gastronomie einen wunderschönen Blick über den Tampa Bay. Außergewöhnliche Städtetouren werden in St. Petersburg angeboten: die „Ghost Tour“ bei der man neben Geistergeschichten historische Geisterhäuser zu hören und sehen bekommt, sowie eine Tour mit Segway Rollern.
Fort Myers
Die zwischen Naples und Tampa gelegene Stadt ist vor allem durch die ehemaligen Winterresidenzen von Henry Ford und Thomas Edison bekannt. Beide Winterwohnsitze kann man besichtigen. Cape Coral und Sanibel Island sind vorgelagerte Inseln, sie und Fort Myers liegen am Caloosahatchee River. Fort Myers ist geprägt durch seine eindrucksvolle Hauptstraße, den McGregor Boulevard der von unüberschaubar vielen Palmen gesäumt ist. Neben vielfältigen Sportaktivitäten und Ausflügen hat Fort Myers auch ein facettenreiches Nachtleben zu bieten.
Clearwater
Berühmt für seine herrlichen Strände gibt es in Clearwater einiges zu entdecken. Bei einer Reise in die schöne Stadt an der Gulf Coast sollte man sich einen Besuch in Weeki Wachi Springs nicht entgehen lassen: die Stadt der lebenden Meerjungfrauen – der etwas andere Freizeitpark. Von Clearwater aus werden hervorragende Bootstouren angeboten um Delphine in ihrem natürlichen Lebensraum zu beobachten und sich die angenehme Meeresbrise um die Nase wehen zu lassen. Sehenswert sind auch der Botanische Garten von Clearwater sowie das Gulf Coast Museum of Art.
